2024 Election: Candidate responses to our questionnaire
Chris’ Response
1. Do you walk or bike in Mt. View? If so, where? And what has the experience been like for you?
a. Yes, I bike to the Caltrain station from South of El Camino and often walk from the Cuesta Park neighborhood to downtown, which requires crossing El Camino. I also jog from my home to Stevens Creek Trail, which requires crossing Grant Rd from Cuesta Park (new crossing in progress!).
2. Which areas of Mt. View do you consider to be safe and comfortable for biking and walking, and which areas do you think need improvement?
a. I’m proud of the safe routes to schools improvements on Castro near Graham Middle School (south of El Camino). I’ve also enjoyed the new bike lanes on Calderon.
b. We need to follow through on our commitments to improving bikeability along California St, Middlefield Rd, El Camino, and El Monte, and Miramonte. We also need to complete our grade separations at Rengstorff and Castro.
3. How specifically would you improve those areas that you think need improvement?
a. I would fully implement the recommendations in our Safe Routes to Schools plan and active transportation strategy. We worked extensively with our community, school leaders and parents to finalize this plan.
4. How should Mt. View implement its Vision Zero Action Plan, adopted by the City Council on September 10, to eliminate fatal traffic collisions in the city?
a. We should fully fund and implement our Active Transportation Strategy and Safe Routes to Schools recommendations. We worked extensively with our community, school leaders and parents to finalize this plan.
5. What should be done to make it safe for children to bike and walk to school in all Mt. View neighborhoods?
a. We should fund/implement our Active Transportation Strategy and Safe Routes to Schools recommendations. We also need to work more closely with Caltrans to improve the intersections at Grant Rd., Castro St, and San Antonio Rd.
