Protected Intersections

Urban Planner Nick Falbo designed the Protected Intersection for American roads.  Inspired by the Dutch Junction, they include refuge islands, forward stop bars, setback crossings, and cycle-friendly signal phasing.  This design is safe enough for everyone.  Watch the video to see for yourself why we love it!!

Protected Intersections coming to Mountain View

In November 2014, Mountain View City Council gave the thumb’s up for two protected intersections when they approved the Shoreline Corridor Study:

Montecito at Shoreline Boulevard:

Middlefield Road at Shoreline Boulevard:

Not only will these intersections help Googlers and Microsoft employees get to work, but they will also help students get to school safely at Crittenden Middle School, Theuerkauff Elementary School, and Stevenson PACT Elementary School. We’re not sure when they will be built, but we can’t wait!
